Typically a Baby-Sitter’s responsibilities is child
care, which is limited to a supervisory and entertaining role for a
short period of time. This may include small meal preparation,
and feeding of children as needed. In most cases, baby-sitters
are not transporting children from one place to another, nor do
they do any of the extensive child-related responsibilities such as laundry, cleaning rooms, or bed making.

A Parent/Mother's Helper is the
middle ground between a baby-sitter and a nanny. They take on
more responsibilities than a baby-sitter, such as cleaning the child/children’s
room(s), doing the child/children’s laundry, and even transporting the child/children as needed. However, in most cases they are working with an at-home
parent, or a parent that is working from home. The parent is the primary childcare provider, with the Parent/Mother’s Helper giving additional help to the parent as needed.

Most Newborn Care
Specialists have specialized newborn care education and training,
but are not nurses. Both Baby Nurses and Newborn Care Specialists take care
of the newborn(s) when they are brought home from the hospital. They
also help educate new parents on infant care such as feeding,
holding, and bathing, among other things. They also get the newborns on feeding and
sleeping schedules. Some may help in other areas such as
light housekeeping and childcare for any other child/children in the family.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Baby Nursing and Newborn Care
Specialist Certification requirements may vary by State.

Doulas are pre- and post-partum specialists who focus on
educating, preparing and supporting the new mother. Some
Doula’s may specialize, only doing pre-partum, while others may
only do post-partum. They understand the physiology of
birth, and the emotional needs of a women in labor. They help
prepare the soon to be parents for the birth, and afterwards. They provide emotional and physical comfort support for
the mother, and help her get any information she may need. A Doula helps nurture the woman through the pregnancy, child birth, and post-partum experience.

Housekeepers are responsible for cleaning the
interior of the home. They do family laundry, run some errands,
dusting, grocery shopping, meal preparation, vacuuming, and
mopping and waxing floors. They may do additional tasks such
as cleaning/organizing closets. Some clean windows and/or iron, others do not. Some housekeepers will provide some childcare responsibilities.
However, their primary function is always housekeeping.
